Parties should limit voting restrictions to confidence-supply matters, says Bersih

Bersih chairman Thomas Fann says parties can rein in their MPs to strictly toe the line on confidence and supply matters only. – December 18, 2022.

PARTIES should not be able to force MPs to vote according to the party line on all bills, electoral watchdog Bersih said today.

Chairman Thomas Fann said giving such a power to parties would only remove all autonomy of parliamentarians in voting, following an agreement signed by coalitions in the unity government which stipulated that all parties must ensure their lawmakers support Anwar Ibrahim and his administration in any confidence motion or bill in the Dewan Rakyat.
