PAHANG Barisan Nasional chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail will be reappointed as Pahang menteri besar tomorrow, the Pahang palace said in a statement.

He would be heading a BN-Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah will be swearing in Wan Rosdy as menteri besar at 11am tomorrow.

Pahang state elections, held simultaneously with the general election last Saturday, saw no clear winner with Perikatan Nasional (PN) winning 17 seats, BN claiming 16 and PH eight.

The election for the Tioman state seat will be held on December 7 following the death of the PN candidate in the early morning of polling on November 19.

The understanding between BN and PH is a continuation of a similar agreement in Perak where BN has been given the menteri besar’s post in that state despite having a lower number of seats than PH.

In Perak, PN emerged as the biggest winner but not enough to have a majority to form a government on its own.

BN and PH are also working together at the federal level to allow the latter pact to form a government that made Anwar Ibrahim the prime minister.

Four days ago, eight PH elected representatives who won the contest for state seats in the general election have signed a statutory declaration (SD) supporting state BN chairman Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail as Pahang menteri besar.

This was confirmed by Sim Chon Siang, who won the Teruntum state seat.

He said the signing of the SD was held at a lawyer’s office in Temerloh today.

Sim said other elected representatives who were with him to sign the SD were Chan Chun Kuang (Semambu), Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (Tras), Woo Chee Wan (Mentakab) and Thomas Su Keong Siong (Ketari).

There are 42 seats in the Pahang state assembly, but polling for the Tioman seat will be held on December 7, following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli, 61, at 3.30am on polling day last Saturday, believed to be due to a heart attack. – November 27, 2022.
