DR Mahathir Mohamad has asked Chinese voters to support his Pejuang-led Malay-based coalition Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) to enable the formation of a clean government.

He said that although his party and the pact was pro-Malay, they were not anti-Chinese.

He also explained that he had formed Pejuang to be a Malay party so that it could fight Umno against corruption.

“Pejuang is a Malay party that is not anti-Chinese but is against Malays who are not righteous.

“And we want to topple that government in this election and establish a new government made up of people who are free of all kinds of criminal offences.

“We hope the Chinese will give their support. In Malaysia, there are areas where the Chinese are the majority and the Malays are the minority.

“There are areas where the Malays are the majority, the Chinese are the minority, so the Malays have split into four.

“If the Chinese support a party, that party will win. So I hope the Chinese will help GTA,” he told reporters at a dialogue with the Chinese community in Pekan Cina in Alor Setar today, the New Straits Times reported.

Dr Mahathir, who is contesting again in Langkawi to defend that seat, said he had explained to the Chinese community on how Pejuang can save the nation.

“I hope the Chinese will help GTA become the government and when we become the government we will get rid of the bad people who are there now.

“We will have a good government that adheres to the law and treats all races according to the Federal Constitution.

“We will establish a clean government and we will work until eventually Malaysia returns as an ‘Asian Tiger’ and at that time I am confident the Chinese, Malays, Indians will all be treated well and business can be conducted without interruption,” he said.

GTA – made up of Pejuang, Putra, Berjasa, Iman and Gagasan Bangsa – will be contesting in 121 parliamentary seats across the country at the 15th general election, with most of the seats coming in Malay-majority areas.

This election is set to see Malay parties fighting hard for Malay votes through the participation of GTA, Amanah (Pakatan Harapan), Bersatu and PAS (Perikatan Nasional), and Umno (Barisan Nasional) in many of the seats. – November 12, 2022.
