A SPECIAL meeting involving Umno division chiefs will take place on October 4 after the party decided that the general election must be held this year, party secretary general Ahmad Maslan said.

In a statement, the Pontian MP said the meeting will be held at the party headquarters at the World Trade Centre, and is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Based on this, all division chiefs, women’s wing, youth and puteri division leaders are invited to attend the event,” Ahmad Maslan said.

According to the letter, all division leaders are required to wear the party’s red corporate attire.

Last night, Umno supreme council members agreed to hold snap polls once Ismail meets the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve the Dewan Rakyat.

“The dissolution of parliament will be made soon and the general election will be held this year. The prime minister will present the date of the dissolution to the king in the near future,” he said.

The next parliamentary meeting starts on Monday until November 29, with Budget 2023 to be tabled on Friday, but it is widely expected that parliament will be dissolved as early as October 12.
