HEALTH Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said a new coronavirus wave is expected to hit the country in the next two to three months – earlier than expected.

This is based on the rise in daily infections, he added.

However, he said, the country is prepared for the new wave, adding that his statement serves as a preventive measure to control the transition into the endemic phase.

“I think the wave will come earlier than our current prediction. We exceeded 2,700 cases today. We were at about 1,000 to 2,000 cases previously, but exceeded 2,000 cases in the last two or three days.

“Infections have risen with two new clusters. All states recorded a hike in cases, except Kedah, Terengganu, Selangor and Johor, as well as the Federal Territory, all of which recorded a slight dip,” he told reporters in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, today.

He again urged above-60s to get their Covid-19 booster as a precaution against the next wave.

“Although we are in the transition stage, the coronavirus is still with us… That is why we must maintain public health preventive measures.”

He also said there is no monkeypox case reported in the country so far. – Bernama, June 23, 2022.
