RM29,000 civil service salary too low, so Najib gave me 1MDB role, Sidek Hassan tells court

Former 1MDB adviser Mohd Sidek Hassan says he thought Najib Razak offered him an RM30,000 salary for his role because the former's salary as then chief secretary to the government was too low. – File pic, June 8, 2022.

FORMER 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) adviser Mohd Sidek Hassan told the court today his RM29,125 salary as then chief secretary to the government (KSN) was insufficient and was the reason why Najib Razak appointed him to 1MDB.

His fee of RM30,000 to sit on the firm’s advisory board was told to the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday.

  • I am shocked at the casual acceptance of money based on this persons reasoning. It smacks of feudalism. A sense of whatever Najib did was ok as long as the monetary benefit satisfied the receiver. Unquestioning subservience allows corruption to flourish. Cash was king here and made a king out of the person dishing out the cash that didnt belong to them.
