THE Negri Sembilan government will cooperate with private companies to expedite the deepening of rivers to overcome frequent flash floods in the state. 

Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said the matter would be discussed during next week’s meeting at the special committee level.

“There are 10 areas identified in the state to be studied to carry out sand dredging in the rivers so there would not be any more floods. We want to (deepen the rivers) soon,” he told reporters after an exco meeting in Kuala Pilah today.

Yesterday, several villages in Seremban were hit by flash floods following heavy rain and thunderstorms in the evening, which affected 300 villagers, while a fallen tree blocked the main route to Kg Ismail, Kg Semarak, Kg Pasir and Kg Dato Mansor.

Aminuddin said among the areas frequently inundated are Seremban, Linggi, Port Dickson and areas near main rivers. – Bernama, May 25, 2022.
