THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will start an investigation into the Majlis Amanah Rakyat’s (Mara) investment holding company Mara Corp, after allegations of abuse of power and mismanagement.

In a statement, the MACC said it had received a report and will start investigation on Monday by recording statements from several Mara Corp witnesses.

“We take these allegations seriously, including possible mismanagement involving several senior officers in Mara – who are subject to internal investigation. The case will be investigated under section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009,” it said in the statement today.

Yesterday, Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun said it had begun an investigation into Mara Corp.

Azizah said Mara took unauthorised dissemination of internal administrative documents to the public seriously, which he said had cast a negative light on Mara and its subsidiaries.

“If there is any misconduct in the governance of subsidiaries under this agency, Mara will never compromise or protect any individual involved.

“(We are governed) by the principle of upholding the value of integrity and carrying out the trust given,” she said in a statement today.

She said all Mara subsidiaries were regulated in accordance with the Companies Act 2016 and always prioritised integrity.

Azizah also denied the allegations, after internal documents of Mara Corp were leaked online, questioning the integrity of some of its officers. – February 5, 2022.
