PRIME Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given his commitment to assist Rohana Abdullah, who was abandoned at a kindergarten 22 years ago after her mother returned to Indonesia.

Ismail said this via a video shared on the social media account of his press secretary, Asyraf Afnan Ahmad Murtadza.

The head of government, who is seen sitting in a vehicle in the clip, contacted the woman to understand her predicament, saying he found out about her difficulties after reading about it in a newspaper.

Ismail said his officer will contact the National Registration Department to assist with the documentation.

“If there is any (development), my officer will contact you,” he said in the video, on which Rohana is heard thanking the former.

News reports stated that Rohana, 22, was abandoned as a 2-month-old baby and raised by Chee Hoi Lan, 83, a teacher at a kindergarten where the former’s mother worked as a cleaner.

The young woman was reportedly forced to drop out of school as she did not have any identification document.

Ismail also thanked Chee for taking care of Rohana with love via a Facebook post.

Rohana was raised well and received Islamic education although Chee is of a different religion, he added.

“For the sake of Rohana’s future, I will assist her in getting citizenship and an identity card.

“To Chee, thank you… best regards from me for taking of Rohana with boundless love.” – Bernama, January 16, 2022.

  • So when there is a vote winner issue, Spineless Sabri wades in with zeal! But where it really matters, like the MACC debacle, he reverts to silent mode. By far the worst PM. And there have been really terrible ones in the past. Hit rock bottom and still digging deeper.
