TAIWAN was shaken by a 5.5-magnitude earthquake in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hualien at 4.15pm today, said the Central Weather Bureau, reported the Central News Agency.
The temblor hit at a depth of 55.4km and its epicentre is located at sea, 66.5km east-northeast of Hualien, according to the Seismology Centre.
The earthquake’s highest intensity, which gauged the actual effect of a temblor, is recorded in Hualien, Nantou, Taitung and Yilan counties, where the quake measured three on Taiwan’s seven-tier intensity scale, representing perceptible swaying of buildings.
It measured 2 in most parts of western Taiwan, including Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Taichung.
