WARISAN’S entry into Peninsular Malaysia will surely cause conflicts with Pakatan Harapan (PH), especially DAP, as the Sabah-based party looks to capture non-Malay voters, P. Ramasamy said today.

The DAP leader said that Warisan was banking on its aim to create a better multiracial Malaysia by moving into the peninsula, adding that this suggests that PH’s multiracialism was not really acceptable to Warisan.

Ramasamy, who is Penang deputy chief minister, also said Warisan was fast moving around states like Penang, Selangor and Johor in the recruitment drive.

“In other words, both Warisan and PH might be at loggerheads at some point.

“The party’s move in Penang and Selangor suggests its aim to get the support of the non-Malays, particularly the Chinese.

“This means winning over those who are supporting or those disgruntled with DAP.

“Such a move might not go well with the DAP, although both parties have cooperated in the past,” he said in a statement today.

He also said the most controversial part of Warisan’s entry into the peninsula was its “apparent secret pact” between Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal and Dr Mahathir Mahamad’s Pejuang.

“Given the good relationship between Shafie and Dr Mahathir, there is a rumour that without the latter’s blessing, the former would not have had the confidence to undertake such a task,” he said.

However he warned that association with Dr Mahathir might be politically suicidal for Warisan in terms of expecting non-Malay support.

This is because some non-Malays in DAP and PKR were upset with these two parties because of their 22-month association with Dr Mahathir when PH was the government.

“The question is: how do they win over the non-Malays if there are suspicions that Dr Mahathir is the brains behind the party?

“Warisan’s boast of attracting support seems to be confined to members who have fallen out with the DAP or PKR.”

Ramasamy also said that while he welcomed Warisan’s entry into the peninsula, he is yet to be convinced that the party has a brand of multiracialism that was superior to DAP or PKR. – January 16, 2022.
