Malaysia’s award-winning Timah whiskey clarifies name confusion


Although Timah has been around for quite a while, it became a topic of conversation on social media for using a Malay word after its official launch on Facebook on October 7. – Facebook pic, October 16, 2021.

TIMAH – the only award-winning whiskey in Malaysia – has courted controversy, after Muslims accused the brand of trying to cause confusion and mislead the people with its Malay name.

The brand took to its Facebook page to correct the misconception, saying that “Timah is a local word meaning ‘tin’”.
