PUTRAJAYA should stop giving excuses and start providing more Covid-19 vaccines to Selangor without any delay, said Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran.

He said Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin had got it wrong in the number of vaccine doses needed for the state in the first place.

“Do away with your excuses of not giving vaccines to Selangor because the vaccination centres that you set up are not capable of managing bigger doses,” he said in a statement today.

Rajiv said Khairy has made a blunder by not being able to manage bigger vaccination centres (PPVs).

“All the vaccination centres were set up by him (Khairy) throughout the nation, including in Selangor, and now by saying that the Selangor PPVs are not able to manage bigger vaccination doses is a blunder on his side,” he said.

“In his chase for bigger PPVs, he has largely underestimated the number of people to be vaccinated in Selangor, although all this data was already available to them on MySejahtera and the PPVs should have been planned accordingly.”

He also questioned the minister’s assurance that the country would be receiving millions of doses in June and July.

He said although 750 private clinics have registered to participate in the vaccination programme in Selangor, only six have been approved as of yesterday.

Rajiv told Khairy to stop dawdling and approve all 750 clinics to administer as many doses as they can.

“Once these 750 applications have been approved, many more will come forward. This is also the way forward as these GPs (general practitioners) will be located closer to people’s homes and they do not need to travel very far for their vaccination,” he said.

According to the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply website, there are 30 vaccination centres in Selangor.

Khairy said on June 15 that currently, 43,000 doses are administered a day in Selangor and the government is looking at increasing the daily doses dispensed to 135,000 next month.

The sultan of Selangor had also raised his concern about the slow vaccination progress in the state. – June 18, 2021.

  • The bulk of the infections are in Selangor. KJ should pump up the vaccines allocation for Selangor if he wants the daily numbers to go down. Its plain common sense. Dont fool around with peoples lives please.
