Najib arrogant about being younger, says Dr Mahathir

Dr MAHATHIR Mohamad has rebuked Prime Minister Najib Razak for mocking his age, telling his one-time political protege not to be arrogant about his youth.

The former prime minister’s age has been one of two main BN arguments against voting for the opposition, with Najib repeatedly saying no country has voted in such old leaders.

The other issue against Pakatan Harapan is its vow to abolish a consumption tax that plugs revenue shortfall in the government budget.

“A 93-year-old can still do all sorts of things, not just ride horses or drive cars, but also topple Najib.

“I think Najib must be feeling very scared with this old man, that’s why he’s doing all sorts of things to stop me from contesting (the general election), stopping my party from being approved,” the Bersatu chairman said in a short video posted on his Facebook page.

In January, Dr Mahathir was named Pakatan Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate should the opposition win this year’s 14th general election.

Najib, 64, has used this against PH, saying no country in the world wanted a 93-year-old leader, and Malaysia would never achieved developed nation status under an old man.

But Dr Mahathir today said Najib’s attacks showed the Barisan Nasional chairman was scared.

“Eh, don’t be so scared. I’m just an old man. But let’s see what will happen to you, you who are so arrogant. The mighty can be brought low. So don’t be so arrogant about your young age.

“Can you win the election without cheating? If you are brave, don’t cheat,” Dr Mahathir added.

PH, which Dr Mahathir leads as chairman, is still waiting for approval from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) despite having submitted its application last July.

The former prime minister has accused RoS of ill-intent over the delay, as it prevents PH component parties from using a common logo in the elections. – March 20, 2018.
