1,290 new Covid-19 cases, majority from Sabah and Selangor

A total of 1,290 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, with Sabah and Selangor accounting for a vast majority of it. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, November 19, 2020.

MALAYSIA today reported 1,290 new Covid-19 infections, with Sabah and Selangor collectively accounting for more than a thousand cases.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today that Sabah reported 660 cases while Selangor logged 407 cases.

A bulk of the cases in Sabah came from prison and detention centre clusters, which contributed to 250 cases.

Meanwhile, the spike in cases in Selangor was attributed to the Teratai and Kapas workplace clusters, which contributed 245 and 55 cases respectively.

The fresh cases bring the total number of infections to 51,680.

Only five of today’s cases were imported while the remaining were local transmissions.

Meanwhile, four deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 326. Two of these fatalities were reported in Sabah, while Johor and Perak reported one death each.

In the past 24 hours, 878 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

With this, the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus now stands at 38,132.

Active cases, on the other hand, stand at 13,222.

Meanwhile, 110 patients are currently warded in the intensive care unit, of whom 37 require respiratory support. – November 19, 2020.
