SABAH student Veveonah Mosibin’s brother, Mekvin, has defended his sister who uploaded a video about climbing a tree to get internet service to sit for an online exam.
He said in a Facebook post that Veveonah uploaded the video on YouTube because she wanted to show how difficult life is in the rural areas where the internet service is poor.
“My sister made the video to show how hard young people are finding it to study and not to ask for help or donations.”
Mekvin said the video became viral and attracted the attention of politicians.
“YB (Kudat MP Abdul Rahim Bakri) and Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin must come down to interiors, only then you all can see how life is here,” he said.
Yesterday, Rahim insisted that Veveonah did not sit for an exam in June.
In a Facebook post, which was removed following backlash, he said Veveonah is no longer living in Kg Sepatalang.
Rahim’s officer, Ambang Sobul, who is from Kg Bilangau Kecil, a village next to Kg Sepatalang, investigated Veveonah’s claim about climbing a tree to get internet service to sit for an online exam.
“From his findings, after interviewing two village heads, it was learned that the Sabah student and her family left Kg Sepatalang long ago as her father works in Pitas town.
“They actually live in Pitas town that has internet facilities and (Veveonah) does not have a house in Kg Sepatalang as she claimed,” Rahim said in the post.
He also dismissed claims that their family are not from Kg Sapatalang.
“I was born here and the last time our family was in Kg Sapatalang was in 2006 to 2007.
“We then moved to KPD when my father got a job there. You also said we didn’t have a house, it’s because it was demolished.”
Mekvin said the politicians’ responsibility is far bigger and not just to win votes.
“YB, your power is in the hands of the people. Who are the people? It is the people who support you to be YB or deputy minister. But when you are happy and rich, you have forgotten the villagers who still need something.” – September 8, 2020.

To top it off, the Minister himself has built his career using fake degrees.
