Seven kayakers receive Malaysian Book of Records certificate for conquering Nile River

SEVEN kayakers created a record as the first Malaysians to paddle down the Nile River when they completed the 200 kilometre Nile River Kayak Expedition from Aswan to Luxor, Egypt recently.

The five men, two women team representing Recreation Council of Malaysia (MRM) had to withstand extreme heat and cold for five days before finishing the race at 2.30pm on November 15.

For their feat in conquering the longest river in the world, the team had their names recorded in the Malaysian Book of Records (MBR).

MBR representative handed over the certificate to coach Muhammad Nur Azrul Che Zabani in the presence of press secretary to the prime minister Akmar Hisham Mokhles as soon as the team arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport today. 

To participate in the cultural expedition which took off on November 8, team members had to undergo various tests before being selected from among 72 participants.

The Malaysian team comprised Mohd Haniff Muhamad Zain, Shamsudduha Junaidi, Ahmad Iqbal Khairi Ismail, Wan Zulhamli Wan Abdul Rahman, Izwan Md Sumairi and two female members – Rosliza Saad and TV3 newscaster Hasnida Hanim Ahmad Kamil. – Bernama, November 19, 2017.
