Yusof Apdal remanded for 4 days

YUSOF Apdal, the younger brother of former Umno minister Shafie Apdal, has been remanded for four days to help a probe into the embezzlement of RM1.5 billion in development funds for Sabah.

Bernama reports that magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie issued the order against the 57-year-old man, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Yusof, who is Umno’s Lahad Datu assemblyman and Silam Umno chief, is the second brother of Shafie’s to be detained in connection with the case.

Hamid Apdal, had been detained on October 10 and had been remanded for five days. His remand was further extended for five days on October 15.

He was arrested last night when he went to the Sabah MACC office in Kota Kinabalu to give his statement on RM1.5 billion allegedly diverted from rural projects.

Yusof is the ninth person arrested so far in connection with the case.

The RM1.5 billion was believed to be from the RM7.5 billion the federal government’s allocated to Sabah  through the Rural and Regional Development Ministry from 2009 to 2015. Shafie was the minster during that time. – October 18, 2017.
