POLICE today arrested five people with alleged links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Sources said the five were detained on suspicion of promoting, supporting and channelling funds to the defunct terror group.
This brings to 12 the total number of those arrested in the LTTE probe in recent days.
Of the latest five suspects, one is a member of a Penang-based civil society group, who was picked up in the state, said sources, adding that two suspects each were detained in Malacca and Selangor.
They declined to divulge whether “important personalities” are among the five.
“Wait for the police press conference on that,” said one source.
Today’s arrests follow a crackdown on Thursday, when the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counterterrorism Division arrested seven people, including two DAP assemblymen from Malacca and Negri Sembilan, for allegedly promoting and trying to revive LTTE.
The first round of arrests took place in Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Perak, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur.
The seven are being held under the Special Offences (Security Measures) Act, which allows for detention up to 28 days.
Police had said they were not ruling out the possibility of making more arrests to facilitate the probe into LTTE.
The force is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow to give details on the latest arrests. – October 12, 2019.

Double standards from the PDRM?
If they say that this is not a racial matter then they must explain why they have not taken similar action against those known supporters of HAMAS.
