MOSQUES and surau in Selangor may use loud speakers during ceramah and religious talks within their compounds only, said Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The ruling applies to talks and ceramah, and does not affect the azan call to prayer and Quran recitations, Sultan Sharafuddin said.

The restriction is to preserve the image of Islam and communal harmony, the Selangor ruler said.

The ruling, formulated at a meeting of the Selangor Royal Court, was announced in a statement from the Court secretary Hanafisah Jais today.

The Malay Rulers are of the opinion that the image of Islam as the religion of the Federation is a religion that encourages its followers to be tolerant, moderate and inclusive,” the statement said.

“(It) should also be protected against being tarnished by actions that are deemed extreme or divisive.”

The Selangor sultan also reminded the people of Selangor to respect the principles of the Federal Constitution in the name of national stability and peace. – October 16, 2017.
