FORMER Kelantan ruler Sultan Ismail Petra Sultan Yahya Petra passed away this morning

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail confirmed the death of the 28th Kelantan sultan, who had been ailing for some years, in a tweet.

She said Sultan Ismail Petra had passed on at 8.11am at the Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab 11 Kota Baru.

His eldest son, Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra had been carrying out his duties as the sultan from May 2009.

In September 2010, he was proclaimed the 29th Kelantan ruler, Sultan Muhammad V.

Sultan Ismail Petra’s three other children are Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra and Tengku Amalin A’ishah Putri.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said the remains of Sultan Ismail Petra will be taken to Istana Balai Besar for dignitaries and the public to pay their last respects before being laid to rest at the Langgar Royal Mausoleum after Asar prayers.

Ahmad also said a state holiday has been declared on Sunday and Monday following the passing of the former sultan, who ruled the state from March 30, 1980, until May 2009.

Sultan Ismail Petra, who has been ill for more than a year after suffering a stroke, was succeded by his son, Sultan Muhammad V, who ascended the throne on September 13, 2010. – September 28, 2019.
