MOHAMED Azmin Ali remains as PKR’s deputy president despite being linked to a sex scandal involving another party member, said Anwar Ibrahim.

The party president said the party will back Azmin to fight the allegations made against him.

“He could not attend the party’s political bureau meeting this evening but he has discussed the issue with me. He is still the party’s deputy president. No changes in that,” Anwar told reporters after chairing the meeting at PKR headquarters.

Earlier today, Azmin had issued a statement denying that he was in the viral sex clips which appeared yesterday.

The clips showed a man resembling Azmin being involved in sexual acts with Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdul Aziz.

Haziq had confessed in a 30-second video posted on his Facebook page early this morning to being the other man in bed with Azmin.

Haziq, who is also the principal private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, said the video was taken “without his consent” in a hotel room in Sandakan on May 11.

Hours after Azmin’s denial, another video clip of the same two men was released in WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, Anwar said he had spoken at length with Azmin yesterday over the issue.

“I expressed my sympathies to him and his family, and gave him the assurance that the party will give him whatever help and support he needs.

“He also apologised for being unable to attend the meeting today. He left it to the party to decide on any further actions on the matter,” he said.

The Port Dickson MP also said he was shocked that such attacks still continued, for he thought he would be the last victim of such gutter politics.

He said he rejected such politics as it was unethical and against the Malaysian culture and religion.

“I thought my experience in the sodomy accusations against me would be the last of such acts but this trend is continuing and it is disgusting.

“I can’t understand why this continues. I am firmly against such acts,” he said.

He added that PKR supports investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and police into the latest scandal.

There is no evidence that the party is involved, he said, responding to claims that the clips allegedly featuring Azmin are an “internal attack”. – June 12, 2019.
