PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has denied any knowledge about the involvement of a member of the party’s Unit Amal in the torching of Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin’s car.

He told a ceramah in Pohon Buloh, Kelantan, yesterday that he would leave the matter to the police to investigate.

“I have no information on the issue. Maybe I after this, I will read up on it,” Hadi was reported saying by Free Malaysia Today.

Asri alluded to Hadi’s link to the incident on March 22 in a Facebook post, which showed photos of the alleged suspects, who are PAS members, together with Hadi.

Last night, Asri apologised for the post, saying his page administrator had wrongly posted the photos along with a caption about the torching of his car.

“The photos show the two suspects with the PAS president. Although the photos were sourced from the suspects’ Facebook pages, they can be easily misinterpreted. This is uncalled for. I would like to apologise on behalf of this FB page if it had created the wrong perception prior to the completion of police investigations,” Asri said.

Asri added that he did not believe Hadi would ask anyone to torch his car.

The mufti has since removed the post.

Asri’s apology followed a complaint by Unit Amal director Mohd Nazree Mohd Arif who took the mufti to task for falsely linking PAS members with the arson incident. – May 23, 2019.
