UMNO will use various methods to wrest Selangor from the opposition, including out-of-the-box approaches, the ruling party’s information chief Annuar Musa said today.

Various efforts and strategies are being formulated as Selangor is Umno’s “pride and soul”, he was quoted as saying on the party website, Umno Online.

“One of the (plans on our) 14th General Election agenda is to recapture Selangor. We are thinking inside and outside the box,” he said.

His statement follows news that Umno had attempted to get PKR assemblymen in Selangor to cross over to the party along with Muhammad Muhammad Taib whose return to Umno was announced in a hyped-up press conference on Sunday.

Selangor fell to the opposition in the 2008 general election and has been ruled by a PKR-led state government since then.

Annuar said Selangor, the country’s richest state, had been developed by Barisan Nasional and not PKR.

“We will not rest easy if Selangor is under the rule of others,” he was quoted as saying at a town hall session with the Sepang Umno division last night.

While Pakatan representatives have dismissed news of the attempted coup through crossovers, Annuar said the opposition pact still had other troubles.

“Are the opposition sleeping well? No… They’d better not have better sleep than us as they are saddled with various issues.

“They have shot all kinds of ‘bullets’ (at us). Whereas, Prime Minister Najib Razak has not fired back.

“We haven’t used up our bullets,” Annuar said.

He urged Umno’s machinery in Sepang to work as a team to recapture the federal seat.

“We were defeated because of internal divisions at one time,” he said.

The Sepang parliamentary constituency has been in the hands of Amanah’s Hanipa Maidin since the 2013 polls. – September 19, 2017.
