POPULAR game distribution platform Steam has been blocked by the Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission (MCMC), with pictures of the blocked page circulating on social media.

Malaysians attempting to access the page are met with a notice saying the website is not available as it violates national laws.

“NOTIFICATION: This website is not available in malaysia as it violates(s) the National law(s),” the notice said.

Social media users are speculating that an arcade fighting game titled “Fight of Gods” may have triggered the block, which denies access to internet users using internet service provider domain name servers (DNS).

Those using alternate DNS or virtual private networks (VPN) are unaffected.

The game in question features religious deities such as Odin, Amaterasu, the Buddha, Jesus, Moses and etc, duking it out against each other.

A description of the game posted on its store page said: “Your prayers have been answered! For the first time ever, gods, holy spirits and mythological characters from around the globe and throughout history will clash in an explosive 2D fighter where the entire world is at stake!”.

The game was released on early access on September 4 and overall user reviews had been very positive, with many praising the game’s absurd and hilarious concept.

Negative reviews pointed out its lacklustre gameplay and poor balance.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has confirmed that Steam was blocked due to its distribution of the game. – September 8, 2017.
