PAKATAN Harapan wants Dr Maszlee Malik to rethink his decision to stay on as International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) president, an appointment that has earned the education minister criticism after he promised that varsities would be free from political interference.

A PH source told The Malaysian Insight that the academic-turned-politician has been told to relinquish the IIUM post by higher-ups in his party, Bersatu, as well as the ruling pact.

  • This Minister appointed Wahid Omar to the board of UKM. Wahid was asked to leave his chairmanship of PNB. Wahid was a Minister that keep quiet about 1MDB. When Wahid was Chairman of PNB he wasted PNB money to buy PNB numbers plate. I think its about time we the rakyat ask this Education Minister to leave.

  • 1. The education minister does seem to heed advise.. on relinquishing his presidency of IIUM. Even upon the advisement by Dr M!
    2. His appointment of Wahid goes against the PHs governments direction
    3. The resignation of his adviser Wan (PTPTN) Chairman is an indication that he (Wan) wants to distance himself from the Education Ministers ways, and wants no part in the process.
Dr M, there is no room for such individualist, radical and non-abiding characters in the PH government. Perhaps, you need to reshuffle your cabinet? You can already make clear differences between the performers and non-performers.

  • He has been going up against Tun on his appointment as IIUM president and allowing political parties to form branches in universities. Tun M is against all these. I think he is just waiting to be sacked. With so much of money allocated to the education ministry Tun M better make sure he has a smart and reliable minister to run the ministry.

  • This is how Tun M wants the rakyat to remember, he wanted to be the Ed. minister but relented after many said he's going against the PH manifesto so he appointed one who is radical & prejudicial to that post.
