450 evacuated in flood-hit Malacca

THE number of flood victims in Malacca rose to 445 in the evening from 254 people in the morning.

State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali said two more relief centres were opened at noon in Sekolah Agama JAIM Tanjung Minyak and Krubong People’s Housing project.

“A total of 20 victims from four households have been moved to the new evacuation centre in Pengkalan Batu,” he told reporters today. He said the other centre was at SK Tehel in Jasin to accommodate 24 victims from eight households.

He said the number of victims at the Peringgit Hall and the Paya Ikan Rural Transformation Centre shelters remained at 30 (from 12 households) and 33 (six households), respectively.

He said 23 victims from six households had been evacuated to the relief centre in Sekolah Agama JAIM Tanjung Minyak, and 68 victims from 13 households were now staying at the relief centre in the Krubong People’s Housing Project. – Bernama, August 11, 2017.
