OFFICIAL PKR-Muda seat negotiations have ended for the upcoming Johor polls after both parties failed to reach a consensus.

This comes on the heels of PKR’s decision to field candidates in 20 seats in the state elections next month.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said his party is committed to ensuring that there will be no overlapping contests among opposition parties, as Muda’s focus is to bring about positive changes in Johor.

Muda managed to prevent a clash of seats in negotiations with Amanah and DAP, he added.

“Muda and the PKR leadership had also held discussions, which ended after the latter decided to announce candidates in 20 seats.

“Muda has notified its wish and intention to avoid overlapping contests between itself and PKR to Amanah and DAP. Muda is ever-ready to continue discussions with PKR.”

Syed Saddiq said if the situation remains status quo, a special meeting will be held to decide how the party can move forward this weekend.

“If the (PKR-Muda) clash of seats cannot be avoided, then the party leaves it to the people of Johor to decide.”

Amanah and DAP have offered Muda six seats in the state elections, namely Bukit Kepong, Bukit Permai, Machap, Parit Raja, Puteri Wangsa and Tenang.

PKR had also reportedly offered the youth-based party three seats.

Muda has named its secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz as its candidate for Puteri Wangsa.

A total of 56 state seats will be up for grabs in the Johor polls on March 12. – Bernama, February 18, 2022.
